This project was conceived by the University of Texas at Austin, Team Oasis Resort and created for the 2019 Walt Disney Imagineering’s Imaginations Design Competition. This project is the sole property of Walt Disney Imagineering and all rights to use these ideas are exclusive to Walt Disney Imagineering. The competition is a way for students and recent graduates to showcase their talents and for Walt Disney Imagineering to identify new talent.
My teammates and I were chosen as finalists in the 2019 competition out of 300+ teams. This page highlights our project, Oasis Resort, as well as the work I individually performed to help our project succeed in both the initial and final rounds of the competition.
A lot of the work I did on my Imaginations team was wholistic and part of a team effort. For example, I helped write the introduction, story development and user experience as seen in the slide deck above. I also created/edited the icons and some graphics in our final slide deck. This image (left) is a set of icons I created to track our walkthrough of Oasis Resort. Overall, I helped assemble and layout content in our presentations and tied the deck together with animations and transitions.
I used Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create the Logo that represents Oasis Resort (right). This logo was inspired by the layout of our resort and a blue color common to Arabic mosaics.
These bracelets started as a concept to help engage guests with the immersive and nature-centered story of our resort. Using this concept, I 3D modeled and physically prototyped bracelets with LEDs that illuminate when the bracelet is clasped (left)
For the finals round of Imaginations, I wanted to create a way for us to identify as "Team Oasis Resort" during the week we spent in Glendale. I 3D modeled and constructed metallic lapel pins (right) from PCB material for our team to wear. The pins were modeled on Fusion 360 then imported to Bantam Tools and milled with a CNC Othermill.
As a Mechanical Engineer aspiring to work in a project-management style role, I wanted to involve myself as much as possible with the feasibility and logistics for Oasis Resort. I created a budget sheet and cost estimate for the resort and thoroughly researched the RFID technology behind our light up bracelet idea for guests to experience at our resort.
